Winter Solstice Cacao Ceremony

“Sitting with Cacao has melted open the doorway to my heart"

Winter Solstice, otherwise known as “Yule” in Pagan traditions, is one of the world’s oldest winter celebrations. On this day, which falls on December 21st this year, we honor the return of the sun and experience the energy of being reborn. This is the shortest day of the year, and as the next day becomes more filled with light, we too prepare ourselves to do the same.
To honor this special time of year, we bring together the medicines of ceremonial grade cacao, sound, and breath.

A one million-year-old teacher, Cacao Theobroma has played an integral role in the development of ancient civilization. Today we know it only as heavily processed chocolate, but Cacao's roots go so much deeper. The history in its native land (Mesoamerica) is rich with the cacao bean. Once worth more than gold, it was regularly exchanged as currency and a gift during weddings, rites of passage, and communal gatherings. We find often that mythology and creation stories in these communities acknowledge cacao as a revered source of godliness.
Cacao is a teacher to our own innate guide.

In its natural state, cacao works with the body like a key, opening the doors to who and what we are, allowing us to fully feel what is happening inside while offering the opportunity to re-direct and attune our lives. Connecting to the spirit of Cacao fosters a consciously inspired state of being where we can set new goals, direct intentions and clear away old, outdated habits and thought patterns.

Cacao is a medicine first. Healing the heart and one's connection to the heart of the earth. These traditions have been graciously carried by the Indigenous peoples of Central America for thousands of years. It is with respect and humility that we continue these sacred practices and gather to commune with the heart.

Ceremonial Cacao prepared with high quality beans allows the neurochemicals contained in the carrier oils (cacao butter) to become particularly active within the body. Blood flow is increased to the brain, heart, and skin, emphasizing sensation, nourishing the body, and enhancing focus. Rich in feel-good compounds, cacao contains the neurotransmitters serotonin, tryptophan, and dopamine which assist with feelings of well-being, combat stress and anxiety, and contribute to motivation. Cacao also contains the neuromodulator phenylethylamine which helps the body create feelings of excitement and euphoria. One of the highest sources of Flavonoids (anti-oxidants) and magnesium on the planet, cacao is extremely beneficial to heart health and reduces blood pressure.

So what is a Cacao Ceremony?
We come together in a safe space and share a strong brew made from ceremonial Cacao, and a blend of spices unique to the gathering.
Fostering deep relaxation, inspiring a peaceful state of being, and enlivening joy by bringing us into the "Bliss Body" or the Anandamaya Kosha.

Mosha And Richelle will guide the group on a journey using meditation, sound, and breath to open our hearts and learn from sacred cacao, the plant given to human-kind when we found ourselves out of balance the natural order and harmony of planet Earth.
